The President of the Uganda Law Society ( ULS), Mr Simon Peter Kinobe has let on on how he is fighting against obesity.
In a Facebook post, Mr Kinobe says he started on a weight loss program upon meeting one of his former lecturers, Mr John Kigula and City Lawyer Julius Galisonga.
” At that point, I weighed 120Kgs. My body could no longer take my weight with ease” he wrote in the post.
” Going to the gym, jogging and walking were exceptionally difficult. I actually got blisters between my thighs from walking” he added.
Mr Kinobe who says he was size 17 and a half decided it was time to cut the weight – a process he describes as “painful”
He embarked on a special diet meant for his body, thanks to help from his friends.
” There are things I had to stop.Things like drinking alcohol, eating meat and food as if it was running out” He says.
This sacrifice and delayed gratification, the ULS President said attracted negative commentary from his colleagues.
” I had to withstand negative comments like; he must be sick( ‘AIDS has started on him), he is broke, he is dying, he is depressed, the Presidency is hard on him, and that Laziness has begun”
” This societal pressure is the most difficult to deal with” he added.
‘The 75 year old made it, so can you’: Motivation from President Museveni
Mr Kinobe said while on his weight loss program, he was motivated by President Museveni who in recent times has cut off several kilograms.
” While I was embarking on this Journey, I noticed that the President had started losing weight. I observed his portions of food were so small. He also reminded me that he doesn’t take alcohol” He said.
” While most of his agemates are dying, the man is growing more energetic. Sadly most are dying of lifestyle diseases” He added.
Mr Kinobe notes that these days lifestyle diseases attack everyone regardless of age.
” We can argue that they are old, which is true, but now lifestyle diseases are taking those of my age and below” The ULS President said.
Mr Simon Peter Kinobe said he now weighs 90Kg and is aiming for 75 before concluding ” The 75 year old made it, so can you”
