The Uganda Law Society (ULS) elections committee has finally set the dates for the long-awaited council elections.
The elections, which were supposed to be held on 4th April, will now be held on the 12th September 2020, starting from 9am to 3pm at the High Court Circuit Premises and High Court Division Premises in Kampala.
A new date was eagerly awaited after the old one, 4th April, became unrealistic due to the lock down imposed by the country in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a circular by Mr George Omunyokol, the Chairperson of the Elections Committee, the Chief Justice has “given permission to the ULS to conduct ‘scientific’ elections.”
The race for President is already looking destined for a photo-finish, with twists and turns along the way. Earlier this week, Mr Anthony Wameli dropped out of the race and endorsed Mr Nelson Walusimbi.
Other Presidential candidates include current Vice President of the Society, Ms. Pheona Nabasa Wall, Mr Bernard Oundo, Ms Anne Karungi and Ssemambo Rashid.
With the date set in September, the law fraternity can only bite their nails as the race gears up.
