City law firm KTA Advocates has announced the appointment of its first senior partners as a “significant strategic step” for the law firm to further its vision of being the ” Go to regional law firm of choice.”
The award winning and IFLR recommended law firm which has built a niche over the past 14 years of its existence in the practice areas of technology, media, Telecommunications (TMT), intellectual property, construction law and oil and gas, appointed Mr. Justus Karuhanga and Mr. Edgar Tabaro as its first senior partners. Both lawyers founded the firm.
As senior partner, Mr. Justus Karuhanga will be leading the law firm’s international and strategic partnerships responsible for delivering its new strategy while Mr. Edgar Tabaro will be the head of KTA’s regional practice responsible for “driving regional synergies” with a specific focus on business entry into Burundi and the East African Community’s latest entrant the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Both Mr. Justus Karuhanga and Mr. Edgar Tabaro are high powered attorneys with over two decades experience each in the legal Industry.
Mr. Justus Karuhanga specialises in public-private partnerships, corporate and commercial law, land conveyancing, investment advisory and electoral law.
He acted as a Private Secretary- Legal to the President of Uganda from 2003-2009.
Mr. Karuhanga also worked as secretary to the commission of inquiry into land matters in Uganda.
He was a Principal State Attorney in the ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs and a Deputy Chancellor of the diocese of South Ankole in the Anglican Church of Uganda.
On his part, Mr. Edgar Tabaro specialises in intellectual property, corporate law, construction law, insolvency, energy, oil and gas. He has had a career in the academia as a law school Dean, senior lecturer in law with over 20 academic publications in peer-reviewed journals. He has also been an external examiner at Makerere law school and the bar course at the law development centre ( LDC).
Mr. Edgar Tabaro has also served on a number of boards including the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) and Uganda Broadcasting Corporation ( UBC) where he was inaugural managing director.
Presently, he serves as company secretary of Agribusiness Development Center, a Rabo Bank entity in Uganda.
He has advised on various legislation in intellectual property in Uganda as the lead on behalf of the Uganda Law Society and was also retained by the European Union to advise the Nigerian and Ghana governments on geographical indications for Pepa Yam, Kola nut and Cocoa as well as Kente clothe respectively.
Commenting about his appointment as senior partner at KTA Advocates, Mr. Justus Karuhanga said it was an “absolute privilege.”

The law firm has also named a partnership advisory board to support the next phase of its strategy towards growth. And in addition to Mr. Edgar Tabaro and Mr. Justus Karuhanga, the partnership advisory board will have – as members- KTA partners Mr. Edwin Tabaro, the litigation and Intellectual Property lead, Mr. Kenneth Muhangi, TMT and Intellectual Property lead and Managing Partner, Asmahaney Saad who is also the corporate, commercial and projects lead.
