List: Judicial Service Commission Appoints 47 Grade One Magistrates

The Judicial Service Commission has appointed 47 grade one magistrates in its single biggest recruitment exercise ever.

The appointees include 17 males and 30 females and were appointed by the Judicial Service Commission in line with its mandate to appoint Judicial officers under Article 148 of the Constitution.

The appointments were further made in fulfilment of the Judiciary expanded structure whose goal is to have magistrate grade ones deployed at every county in an effort to improve access to justice and reduce litigation.

The appointments were made following a meeting held on Thursday at the Commission’s headquarters in Kampala. The appointees have undergone a series of competence tests as well as oral interviews, according to the JSC.

Meanwhile, to address staffing challenges in the Judiciary, the JSC will soon advertise positions of 3 Justices of the Supreme Court, 14 Judges of the High Court, 4 deputy registrars and 5 assistant registrars.

The JSC will also advertise 33 positions of Chief Magistrate, 10 positions of senior principal magistrate grade one, 18 positions of principal magistrate grade one and 26 positions of senior magistrate grade one.  Recruitments will be in the new financial year 2021/2022.
