Ms. Nabasa garnered 441 of the total valid votes cast beating her closest challenger Mr Bernard Oundo with a margin of 14 votes. She will be deputised by Ms. Diana Angwench in a historic all-female executive Council.

In what is her first public statement as president of the Uganda Law Society, Pheona Wall said on Sunday that the society’s election was issue-based and reflected the values of a participatory democracy – one that the rest of the country needs to learn from.

” We have displayed the virtues of participatory democracy and set an example for issues-based campaigns, tolerance for divergent views and a culture of constructive engagement. This is a much needed ingredient in the political arena of our country, across the spectrum and I am enthused that we have provided a blue print for elections in this country ” Nabasa said.

The President’s statement is instructive given that Uganda is in an electioneering season and so far elections in some areas have degenerated into spates of violence.

Pheona Wall further mulled the idea of meeting with the unsuccessful candidates in the ULS election for a ” harmonisation process that optimises all the ideas of the different campaigns into a formidable action plan.”

Ms Pheona Nabasa Wall, a commercial lawyer currently working as head of the legal department in the National Water and Sewerage Corporation(NWSC) takes over from Simon Kinobe and becomes the Law Society’s 21st President.
